O presente artigo pretende relacionar entre os autores das teorias contemporâneas da hermenêutica filosófica os traços que conduzem à hermenêutica enquanto ciência da interpretação, ao ponto de possibilitar uma ruptura com os modelos metafísicos do pensamento; o ser, destituído de seu caráter estável, é compreendido agora como evento, acontecimento, e por isso mesmo é interpretação. A pluralidade cultural, que se revela sob a forma de uma estetização geral da vida, é a marca da Pós-Modernidade. A experiência estética proporcionada pelos mass (...) media não é apenas vinculada à experiência da arte; é também, ou principalmente, um efeito que evidencia culturas e subculturas que se libertam dos ideiais da Modernidade – a humanidade reduzida à Europa. O autor partindo de textos-base de instituições internacionais, como a O.C.D.E. e a UNESCO, e sobretudo da Lei de Bases do Sistema Educativo Português (L.B.S.E.) ensaia o modo como eles, com especial destaque para o texto da L.B.S.E., possam garantir a pluralidade do pensar na instituição escolar. Por outras palavras, tenta-se dar subsídios que assegurem, pelo menos teoricamente, a formação de uma consciência educativa (democrática) contraposta à lógica reducionista e positivista que sempre tem caracterizado esse mesmo tipo de consciência. Dans la perspective de Gilbert Durand, cette étude traite de la conception de la création en général et, en particulier, de la création littéraire. Dans un premier temps, elle met l’accent sur le rôle de la création artistique en valorisant l’impératif de l’œuvre, puis, dans un second temps, sur celui de la création littéraire. Le but est de réfléchir sur la création et aussi sur son propre contenu, constitué de sens et de significations, du point de vue de l’imaginaire. En conclusion, il est important de souligner que la conception de la création durandienne s’exprime à travers l’impératif de l’œuvre, du lointain et de la fonction fantastique de l’imaginaire. The present study deals, from the perspective of Gilbert Durand, with the conception of creation, in general, and of the literary creation, in particular. At first, it focuses on the role of artistic creation by valuing the imperative of the work while, in a second moment, it focuses on the literary creation. The objective is to reflect on the creation and its own content, constituted of senses and meanings, from the perspective of the imaginary. The methodology is based on the explanation-understanding binomial and on the author’s work. As a conclusion, it is important to underline that the conception of Durandian creation is told through the imperative of the work, the Remote and the fantastic function of the imaginary. (shrink)

The present study is based on the work by Sara Maitland entitled A Book of Silence and seeks to reflect on this theme in the line of high spirituality by crossing it with the figures of the imaginary that form the silence itself. To this end, we seek in the first part, devoted to silence, to understand the nature of silence in its manifestations, types and images, as it was thought and studied by Sara Maitland in her A Book of (...) Silence. Then, in the second part, reflect on the meaning of this constellation of images to try to delineate the imaginary of silence. In the third part, taking into account the developments of the first and second parts, we will reflect on the trilogy of silence-imaginary-creativity. We will conclude with some reflections and questions raised by the analysis of the author’s work. (shrink)

O objetivo deste artigo é propor, em confluência com a filosofia de Gaston Bachelard, uma pedagogia do não inspirada na figura do cogito do sonhador para refletir sobre uma educação para a imaginação. Parte-se da filosofia do não de Bachelard para a construção de uma pedagogia do não, expressa como pedagogia do diálogo, que põe em relação complexa e complementar o conceito e a imagem, como prolongamentos do racionalismo aberto e da imaginação criadora. Na sequência, o cogito do sonhador é (...) evocado para o estudo do devaneio e do imaginário, no quadro da imaginação material dos quatro elementos. Esses passos preambulares são necessários para se chegar à educação para a imaginação, cuja dimensão de Bildung se opera por meio da eufemização. Como função da imaginação, a eufemização tende a transfigurar o sofrimento, a morte e o nada em algo aceitável, não como negação, mas como dinamismo prospectivo que tenta melhorar a situação do homem no mundo. Exemplo desse dinamismo são as imagens literárias, com a polissemia e a polifonia que as caracterizam e as alçam ao domínio do estranho e da transgressão em relação à ordem do sentido primário. Desse modo, intenta-se mostrar como a pedagogia do não e o cogito do sonhador se articulam na proposição de uma educação para a imaginação pautada pela função de eufemização. São convocadas para este estudo, além da já mencionada filosofia de Gaston Bachelard, as contribuições teóricas de Gilbert Durand e Jean Jacques Wunenburger. (shrink)

Depuis les années 1960, Gilbert Durand a fondé et développé une méthodologie et une épistémologie novatrices de l'étude des imaginaires individuels et culturels qui ont inspiré une Ecole de Grenoble, qui n'a cessé d'essaimer à travers un grand nombre de centres de recherches en France et dans le monde. Sa pensée, connue à travers la mythocritique et la mythanalyse, enrichie par une vaste culture historique et pluriculturelle, a été appliquée dans les domaines les plus divers des sciences humaines et sociales. Loin d'être un système clos, son oeuvre a inspiré une épistémologie ouverte qui a permis, sur la base des acquis fondamentaux, de se préciser, de s'adapter à des champs nouveaux, de recevoir les apports d'autres écoles, courants ou traditions culturelles. Les contributions ici rassemblées permettront de mieux situer l'émergence de la problématique de l'imaginaire dans différentes disciplines ou champs d'études, de présenter les innovations théoriques apportées par l'anthropologie de l'imaginaire de G Durand, d'illustrer les innovations qu'elles auront permises, d'amorcer des éléments de prospective pour les chantiers actuellement en cours d'exploration. In the late medieval period, the issue of the composed nature of human beings and its relation to medieval faculty psychology became central. There is ample scholarship on this topic, focusing primarily on authors such as the Dominicans Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas, and the Franciscans Alexander of Hales, Hugh of St. Cher, John of La Rochelle, and Peter John Olivi. In this paper, we want to examine the view of one of Olivi’s disciples, the Franciscan theologian Peter (...) of Trabibus (fl. 1290s), on the unity of the human soul and the nature of its powers, especially the powers of the intellect and the will. We are particularly interested in his application of the principle of plurality of substantial forms to explain the nature of the relation between the powers of the soul and its essence. (shrink)

This book investigates Aristotelian psychology through his works and commentaries on them, including De Sensu, De Memoria and De Somno et Vigilia. Authors present original research papers inviting readers to consider the provenance of Aristotelian ideas and interpretations of them, on topics ranging from reality to dreams and spirituality. Aristotle’s doctrine of the ‘common sense’, his notion of transparency and the generation of colours are amongst the themes explored. Commentaries from historical figures featured in this work include those of Michael of Ephesus, Albert the Great and Gersonides’. This article discusses the theories of perception of Robert Kilwardby and Peter of John Olivi. Our aim is to show how in challenging certain assumptions of medieval Aristotelian theories of perception they drew on Augustine and argued for the active nature of the soul in sense perception. For both Kilwardby and Olivi, the soul is not passive with respect to perceived objects; rather, it causes its own cognitive acts with respect to external objects and thus allows the subject to perceive (...) them. We also show that Kilwardby and Olivi differ substantially regarding where the activity of the soul is directed to and the role of the sensible species in the process, and we demonstrate that there are similarities between their ideas of intentionality and the attention of the soul towards the corporeal world. Charles Sanders Peirce is generally regarded as the founder of pragmatism, and one of the greatest ever American philosophers. Peirce is also widely known for his work on truth, his foundational work in mathematical logic, and an influential theory of signs, or semiotics. Albert Atkin introduces the full spectrum of Peirce’s thought for those coming to his work for the first time. ABSTRACT By turning his focus to individuals – the profile of billionaires as the people they are – Peter Hägel offers in his book Billionaires in World Politics an interesting move towards agency, showing that their power, even if situated in a complex economic structure, also consists in bending, changing, or setting the rules of how the game is played. After having followed the move of the pendulum from structure to agency with Hägel, in this paper I suggest that moving (...) back to structural analyses could again provide new insights. I argue that in order to have a more complete picture of the billionaires-and-politics puzzle, it is required to not only look at agency as a kind of reflexive phenomenon, but also to provide a more historically informed genealogy of the conditions under which billionaires’ passions have been shaped. The series MISCELLANEA MEDIAEVALIA was founded by Paul Wilpert in 1962 and since then has presented research from the Thomas Institute of the University of Cologne. The cornerstone of the series is provided by the proceedings of the biennial Cologne Medieval Studies Conferences, which were established over 50 years ago by Josef Koch, the founding director of the Institute. The interdisciplinary nature of these conferences is reflected in the proceedings. The MISCELLANEA MEDIAEVALIA gather together papers from all disciplines represented in (...) Given the need to explore the factors that can account for a better understanding of the intention-behavior gap in exercise practice in health club settings, and considering the emergence of hedonic assumptions related to exercise adherence, this cross-sectional study aimed to test the moderation effect of the intensity traits agreement/disagreement in three relevant outcomes of exercise enjoyment: exercise habit, intention to continue exercising, and exercise frequency. A sample consisted of 273 exercisers (male = 127; Mage = 36.21; SD = 11.29) (...) enrolled in nine health clubs who voluntarily fulfilled a battery of questionnaires. All analyses were performed using SPSS v. 23.0/PROCESS v. 3.5. The results of the study presented a moderation effect of exercise intensity traits agreement on three relevant enjoyment outcomes: exercise habit, intention to continue exercising, and exercise frequency. No relevant results emerged from intensity traits disagreement. The results suggest that assessing and tailoring exercise prescription and supervision in order to customize exercise intensity may influence future exercise participation. (shrink)

This article presents a conceptual discussion on the phenomenon of incorporation of tools and other objects in the light of Maine de Biran’s philosophy of the relation between the body and the motor will. Drawing on Maine de Biran’s view of the body as that portion of the material world which directly obeys one’s motor will, as well as on his view (supported by studies in contemporary cognitive science) of active touch as the perceptual modality that is sensitive to objects (...) as fields of forces resisting the perceiver’s movements, we discuss the phenomena of motor incorporation and haptic incorporation, as well as the relation between them. Motor incorporation occurs when something is integrated into the motor system, i.e. when practice enables one to animate an object as directly, effortlessly and fluently as one is able to animate one’s own body. The subject then has the experience of acting there, where the object is located, not at the body–object interface. In order to better understand the phenomenon of motor incorporation, we highlight the phenomenological difference between directly and indirectly moving something. Haptic incorporation occurs when something is integrated into the haptic system, i.e. when an object is used as an instrument for the haptic perception of other objects. Finally, we seek to shed light on the phenomenon of transparency, understanding the transparency acquired by the incorporated object as both a relational property and a matter of degrees. (shrink)

Procuramos mostrar como a antropofagia, enquanto “programa de reeducação da sensibilidade” e “teoria da cultura”, é também um combate contra o patriarcado, a venalidade e a usura do capitalismo; contra a lógica do léxico Berlitz, os preconceitos religiosos e as superstições ultrapassadas.

Uma apresentação sumária de possíveis definições de ensinar e aprender filosofia e seus desencontros, com ênfase nas ideias de transmissão, orientação, encenação e "falar em nome próprio".

The aim of the present work is to show the roots of the conception of perception as an active process, tracing the history of its development from Plato to modern philosophy. The contributors inquire into what activity is taken to mean in different theories, challenging traditional historical accounts of perception that stress the passivity of percipients in coming to know the external world. Special attention is paid to the psychological and physiological mechanisms of perception, rational and non-rational perception and the (...) role of awareness in the perceptual process. Perception has often been conceived as a process in which the passive aspects - such as the reception of sensory stimuli - were stressed and the active ones overlooked. However, during recent decades research in cognitive science and philosophy of mind has emphasized the activity of the subject in the process of sense perception, often associating this activity to the notions of attention and intentionality. Although it is recognized that there are ancient roots to the view that perception is fundamentally active, the history remains largely unexplored. The book is directed to all those interested in contemporary debates in the fields of philosophy of mind and cognitive psychology who would like to become acquainted with the historical background of active perception, but for historical reliability the aim is to make no compromises. O artigo propõe analisar o problema da técnica moderna trabalhada pelo filósofo alemão Martin Heidegger em sua crítica a modernidade e à metafísica, elencando a questão da verdade, não metafísica, para Heidegger: alétheia. A questão da técnica nos leva a problemática de sua própria essência ge-stell, interpelação, o mundo, o ser humano e a natureza são forçados a se mostrarem como reservas, estoques, de acordo com sua demanda meramente econômica, científica, comercial, o próprio ser em sua essência é esquecido. O (...) artigo tem como método a análise bibliográfica de obras heideggerianas, sob objetivo de indagar sobre a essência da técnica moderna como interpelação que nos leva a um crescente perigo do esquecimento do ser, e, também, da degradação da própria natureza tida como mero objeto de armazenamento de recursos; assim como refletir sobre a necessidade do mistério como faceta constituinte da verdade do ser como alétheia, desvelamento, como forma de dar um passo atrás em relação à modernidade e sua visão matematizante científica, elevando o pensamento meditativo como de considerável importância. O artigo conclui que é necessário repensar nossa lida moderna com o próprio habitar, de forma a dar um salto da lógica tecnicista, onde se encontra o perigo, e estando no mesmo local des-velar um habitar mais próprio, autêntico. During the 24 years of the Indonesian occupation of East Timor, to talk about its cultural individuality as a product of its history - focusing on what set it apart from Indonesia - was an act likely to raise suspicions of some kind of manipulation of history for political purposes. Naturally, the same suspicions could fall on anyone assuming an opposite view, that is a view that valued the connection uniting the two peoples and discarded what separated them. In this (...) paper, we adhere more to the first perspective. Obviously, we are not driven by the desire to prove that East Timor had to be, a priori, independent; this is by no means the task of a historian. We are simply trying to explain, a posteriori, why, in the referendum of 30 August 1999, the people of East Timor voted overwhelmingly for independence. (shrink)

Filipe Drapeau Vieira Contim,Pascal Ludwig | : La plupart des théoriciens de l’identité des types souscrivent à un physicalisme a posteriori à l’égard des propriétés phénoménales. Selon cette conception, les énoncés d’identité esprit/cerveau peuvent être justifiés par une inférence à la meilleure explication (IME) partant du fait empirique des corrélations esprit/cerveau. Nous soutenons que la théorie de l’identité ne peut pas s’appuyer sur cette méthodologie abductive. Nous montrons tout d’abord que l’on ne peut pas justifier les énoncés d’identité esprit/cerveau (...) au moyen d’une IME partant des corrélations esprit/cerveau car cette stratégie conduit à un dilemme : ou bien les corrélations ne sont pas des explananda, ou bien les identités esprit/cerveau doivent être admises comme des faits bruts au même titre que les lois dualistes. Nous montrons ensuite que ces énoncés d’identité peuvent être néanmoins justifiés par une IME partant du pouvoir causal des états phénoménaux. Cette seconde stratégie n’est toutefois d’aucune aide pour la forme a posteriori de théorie de l’identité ici discutée dans la mesure où elle débouche sur un physicalisme de type a priori. | : Most type identity theorists endorse a posteriori physicalism about phenomenal properties. On such a view, mind/brain identity statements can be justified by an inference to the best explanation (IBE) starting from the empirical premise of mind/brain correlations. We contend that Identity Theory cannot be based on such an abductive methodology. First, we argue that mind/brain identity statements cannot be justified by an IBE from correlations as it leads to the following dilemma : either correlations are trivial facts that cannot pretend to the status of explananda, or mind/brain identities must be admitted as brute facts, just like dualist laws. Second, we show that these identity statements can still be justified by an IBE starting from the premise of mental causation. However, this strategy is of no help for the a posteriori brand of Identity Theory here challenged since the same premise forces one to embrace a priori physicalism. (shrink)
